The photographs below represent several of my owls that are already sold. Many of my owls are freestanding. Those on bases are pinned and epoxy glued to the base for added durability. I should have all of the owls not marked "SOLD," but once in a while, I forget to mark one. Watch this site for periodic updates. And remember, these are all one-of-a-kind, so don't expect, look for, or want to order a duplicate. The NEW label next to an owl reflects the fact that the owl is new to the Web site. It is usually a new carving, too, but not necessarily. LAYAWAYS are possible. Just E-mail me for terms.

NOTE: If you have any large pieces, 20 pounds or more, of Montana dendritic soapstone, I will pay top price.

SOAPSTONE #1C

This stoic owl was hidden in my last piece of East Indian soapstone. It is almost white with some purplish markings here and there. I hope to find more of this stone since it holds detail very well and, like the dendritic soapstone, it is soft enough to carve without power tools.

The owl is 8.25" high and is mounted on a 5" x 5" x 2" cherry base.

Half-hiding behind a wing, this owl is a fine example of dendritic soapstone. The coloring is a little more subtle than the photos show. It is carved on three sides with the back smooth and polished. He is about 3.5" high, 3" wide and stands about 2.75" high.

It appears as though this owl heard you sneaking up behind it but it doesn't seem to be bothered by your presence. No matter which way you look at this owl, you have to notice the dendrites. There is also a touch of iron on the owl's left brow and wing. The back of the owl is smooth and polished.

Standing on a 3" x 2" x 1" dark-stained oak base, the owl is 3.75" high x 2.75" wide x 2.25" deep.

Another triangular block of oak seems to be a perfect perch for this owl. Abstract, yes, but still recognizable as an owl, this one was fun to carve. The owl is 3.25" x 3" wide x 1" deep and sitting on its oak base, 4.5" x 2" x 1" high.

This poor owl currently is my oldest piece, having been carved in 2006! Personally, I still like it and feel it has a solid, masculine appearance. The larger photos show it better. Although the dendritic pattern is strong, people tend to see the beautiful stone, first, then the owl. I like that

Standing 5+" high, it is 5" wide, and 2" thick with a polished back.(There is one speck of iron on the back.) Its oak base is 1.75" high, 5" long and 2.75" deep.

This is another piece of Chinese, pink translucent soapstone. It is a little harder to carve by hand, but its translucency and the way it changes in different light fascinates me.

The owl is 3" high x 3.25" wide x 2.5" deep and is carved all around. It is mounted on a dark-stained cherry base that is 3" x 2" x 2" high.

Unlike Soapstone Owl #15 on Page 1, this owl is very angular. The detail is much finer than the photos show but the dendritic pattern turned out just about perfect, considering I have no control over where the dendrites will be.

UTAH

We have returned to our SLC office this morning from our Virginia office. We knew that "the owl" had arrived and were very excited to get to open the THREE boxes. I don't have to tell you that he arrived in fine shape.....and is still as beautiful as ever. I am anxious to take him to his new home and am hoping that my husband does not want to keep him here in our office.  We will take very good care of our new "pet".
Thanks again, Bev
PS  Thanks for the very excellent "opening the owl" instructions.  I think you must love him as much as we do!!!!

The shape of stone will surprise you, as the larger photos will reveal. The dendrites are profuse but not overpowering. In other words, it is a nice piece of dendritic soapstone. The owl is carved on three sides and the back is smooth and polished.

The owl is 4.75" high x 2.75" wide x 1.75" deep. The dark-stained cherry base is a little over 3" x 2" x 1".

The mauve coloration is quite rare and comes from the same area as most of the other pieces shown. Geologists have told me that the manganese, that forms the dendrite also causes this color. In the larger photos, notice the two streaks of much darker mauve. Nice! It is carved on three sides and the back is smooth and polished. The owl is about 4" high, 3.25" wide and 2" deep.

It is mounted on a triangular piece of cherry (I think) which is 4.5" x 2" x 1".

This is very slightly out-of-focus, and I apologize for that. As you can see in the larger photos, the manganese is swirled and there are small areas of iron, too.
