A rarely found color of dendritic soapstone, this owl is a very pale shade of green. Wherever it sits, it must be placed high as it is definitely looking down. It is fully carved. The owl is 6.5" high and the cherry base is 4" x 4" x 2". A fine sculpture, if I say so myself.

An owl would have to be a contortionist to strike this pose, but that is the way the stone spoke to me. As you can see, there are areas with many dendrites and other areas which are clear. I have no control over that. The owl has a slightly green cast and stands approximately 8.25" high, 6.5" wide, and 6.5" deep. It is fully carved and mounted on a cherry base, 2" x 7" x 7". This
owl is actually quite triangular and exudes a lot
of character. The back is polished. The owl is
3.75" high and about 3.25 wide.

This photo may be small, but the owl is of good size. The soapstone is from India and is white with a pale green overcast. At this time, I haven't given this carving a title, but it's a very strong piece. The owl is approximately 5 inches high and is a 3-dimensional figure (carved all around). It is mounted on a base of dark-stained cherry which is 9 x 6.5 x 2 inches high. MARYLAND...Now in MICHIGAN |

A gaggle of geese? A group or flock of owls is called a "parliament." This colorful piece of Montana soapstone is mauve with almost red streaks running through it. And it is covered with owls of various styles, shapes and sizes. See the larger photos for more detail or go to my second soapstone page to see another "parliament of owls. The carving is 6.5" high and mounted on a dark-stained cherry base 6.5" x 6.5" x 2+" high. MARYLAND

Another
fun piece with dendrites and swirls of color, this
owl is completely carved (except for the back side
of the tail). It is approximately 4.5 inches high
and 6.5 inches wide. ANOTHER ONE

The
soapstone was from China and I only a few small
pieces. |
Two lighting effect on another piece of the same Chinese soapstone. |
Both this owl and the one above were about 4" high.

An owl of East Indian soapstone takes flight! It is not quite as white as it appears in this photo but rather a creamy-greenish hue more like the first large photo. The owl, itself, is approximately 6" wide and 4" high. It is mounted on a 4" square acrylic base topped with a block of African soapstone. The entire piece is about 7.5" high. The larger photos show much more detail. Sorry, they may take a bit to load.
