Cameron Owls--Original owl sculptures in Soapstone Bronze Pewter Copper

Bronze is a medium which I have not had enough time to explore. The original owl can be created from almost any material—clay, soapstone, wax, wood, to name a few. A rubber mold is made of the "positive" owl and this mold is then used to make wax copies of the original. The wax casting is surrounded by an investment plaster.

After drying, the investment is placed in a kiln to burn out the wax. This is called the "lost wax" process. Molten bronze, which is an alloy of copper and tin, is poured into the investment. After cooling, the investment is broken away, leaving a bronze casting of the original. The piece is sand-blasted to thoroughly clean it, and a patina of various acids is applied to oxidize it. My bronze sculptures are done in limited editions of nine to fifty castings.

THE SENTRY ........................

The Sentry is derived from a maquette that I carved in soapstone, then sold as a limited edition in bronze, called First Hatching, in the late 1990s. The Sentry is 11-3/4" high, 9" wide, at its widest point, and 5" deep. The owl is ready to mount, with bolts, on whatever you wish. It is a limited edition of only 10.

The original mold for Vigilance was destroyed in a fire at the bronze foundry a number of years ago. I have replaced it, and it is currently available in two patinas and at two prices, as described under each. Colors may vary. However, all versions are included in the edition of thirty. and all owls are the same size.

Vigilance is a Limited Edition of 30 and began with number 4. The owl, itself, stands 8+ inches high (20.5cm)and is from a soapstone original.

It can be purchased as:
1. LEFT COLUMN BELOW: A bronze mounted on an oak base w/brass name plate. The base is 4" x 4" x 3" high.
2. RIGHT COLUMN BELOW: A free-standing (no base) bronze with added weight to give it even more heft and stability.

The original 4.5" high, Limited Edition of 50 sold out a number of years ago. Due to demand, I have created two new sizes, one larger and one smaller, in two nice patinas: Dark Brown with highlights, and Antique Green. Both patinas are included in the respective Limited Editions of 50, i.e., no matter which patina you buy, it is one of 50 in that size. Colors may vary.
Note: All of these bronzes are hollow-cast but will stand firmly, weighted or not weighted. I use sand and lead to give them more weight.

This owl is an illusion. If you click on it to see the larger photos, you'll find it is just the front of an owl. The back is a concave surface. Oh, well. This owl is available in the traditional brown or green patina and stands about 4.5 " high. It is mounted on a wooden base 2" x 2" x 1" inch high. Detailed Owl is from a limited edition of 50. There are still a number remaining.

Originally created, one at a time, in a press mold in stoneware in the 1970s, I now have these cast in bronze in a very limited edition.
